Totally agree. We have our pond in back ice covered. It freezes and thaws each week. Not good for our furry friend.

In reply to - Karen Marks posted an update: PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T ALLOW YOUR DOGS TO RUN ONTO ICY PONDS, LAKES, RIVERS AND CANALS. Every year many dogs die by falling through ice and drowning, some of the owners die as well trying to rescue them. HUBBARDS, Nova Scotia — ”Indiana Jones”, a one-year-old Weimaraner pup, saved the lives of his entire family—Larry and Chris Stevens and their children Justin and Devan—when a devastating fire consumed their home last July.

Not only did the vigilant dog wake them in time to save a child from an exploding window, Indy also led the family to the safest exit, a side door away from the front and back of the house which, they would later learn, had been surrounded by downed power lines.

At Monday’s ceremony at Exhibition Place, Toronto, TV / radio celebrity Carla Collins presented a medal to the wiggly Weimaraner who seemed intent on demonstrating his back-up plan for dealing with the fire: douse the blaze with slobber.

Well done, Indiana Jones. Maybe they’ll make a movie about you: Raiders of the Lost Bark.

Good to know Weimareiners are good for something! My mom has 2 big Weimareiners and if they aren’t hunting they’re a huge pain around the house – very difficult to train.

    Live X-mas Tree and Dogs

Live Christmas trees look and smell wonderful; however, these trees must be kept alive throughout the season. Most people water their tree in order to keep it green and healthy for several weeks. Pets, dogs especially, tend to help themselves to this ready source of hydration. In most cases, this is less harmful to your dog than the tree, but if you added fertilizer, your dog could become ill. Diarrhea and vomiting can occur if your dog drinks the fertilized water. If you have an indoor pet, it is better to forego the fertilization.

Cold weather Fact: Brush your dog vigorously and regularly. The air in most houses becomes dry during the colder months, which depletes moisture from dog skin and fur. Brushing improves skin, coat and circulation.
